SUMMARY:Heritage Happy Hour - Chambers House Museum
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our next Heritage Happy Hour on November 21st from 5:30-7:30 pm! Enjoy craft beer from Giglio Distributing Co.\, wine\, and a movie on the lawn of the Chambers House Museum! Bring a lawn chair and snacks to sit and enjoy a showing of White Christmas on the grounds starting at 5:45 p.m. \nThe Chambers House Museum was built in 1907 by local lumberman Hardee Turner before being purchased in 1914 by C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers. They moved into the home with their two young daughters\, Ruth\, 11 and Florence\, 16 months old. The house was remodeled extensively in 1924\, and never changed or modernized again. Members of this family occupied and cherished this home for the rest of their lives. Nearly 90 years of family possessions were found in the home upon Florence Chambers’ death in 2004\, many dating to the time of the 1924 remodel. The bottom floor of the home will be open for walk-throughs. \nAbout White Christmas (1954): Singers Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) and Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) join sister act Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy Haynes (Vera-Ellen) to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. There\, they run into Gen. Waverly (Dean Jagger)\, the boys’ commander in World War II\, who\, they learn\, is having financial difficulties; his quaint country inn is failing. So what’s the foursome to do but plan a yuletide miracle: a fun-filled musical extravaganza that’s sure to put Waverly and his business in the black! \n*This event is weather permitting* \nAdmission: \n-Free for all Beaumont Heritage Society members-$10 for all non-BHS members 21+ \nHeritage Happy Hour is an ongoing outreach program typically held every other month\, with each event highlighting a historical landmark\, time\, or exhibit\, and features craft beer graciously provided by Giglio Distributing Co. (wine and non-alcoholic beverages also available). We believe that by promoting and sharing our local history and its historical significance in a fun and social way\, we can also share and promote the efforts to preserve Beaumont’s historical landscape. Join the Beaumont Heritage Society today at beaumontheritage.org and be a part of making a difference!

SUMMARY:Chambers House Museum - Historical Marker Dedication
DESCRIPTION:  \nBeaumont Heritage Society will host a Marker Dedication to celebrate the Chambers House Museum receiving a Registered Texas Historic Landmark designation. The dedication will celebrate the 1907 C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers Home\, operated by Beaumont Heritage Society as a Historic House Museum. \nThe Chambers House Museum represents a time in Beaumont when both timber and oil were highly successful industries bringing major growth to the area. The Chambers house stands as an example of what life was like for an upper-middle-class family in a city rapidly changed through two successful industries centered around the natural resources of the area. The museum\, built in 1907 by a local lumberman\, was sold to the Chambers family in 1914. C. Homer and Edith Fuller Chambers moved into the home with their two young daughters\, Ruth\, 11 and Florence\, 16 months old. Nearly ninety years of family possessions were found in the home during restoration. Not only does the home still stand\, but an enormous number of personal items are contained within telling the story of daily life in a time long past. \nThe event will feature remarks from Jean Moncla with Hancock Whitney Bank\, Kate Hambright\, Marker Chair for the Jefferson County Historical Commission\, and Demi Engman\, Director of Planning and Community Development with the City of Beaumont. \nThe dedication will take place November 9th\, 2024\, at 10 a.m. at the Chambers House Museum located at 2240 Calder Ave. Beaumont\, TX 77701. The event is free to attend. Refreshments will be served after the dedication and the Museum will be open for tours. Parking is located behind the Museum off McFaddin Ave. \nThe Beaumont Heritage Society is a non-profit\, organized to educate and engage the community through Beaumont’s history and heritage for a better future together.
